I'm thinking we need some excitement that won't mean getting our brains scrambled and our lives rearranged. Say, the Olympics, tailored for the Barge.

You'd better be feeling some pride about it, sweetheart. I'd still be tucked up in Zero every other week if you hadn't kicked me into gear.

[It wasn't Iris's doing alone, of course, but he's happy to give her credit.]

I expect I 'elped. I'll write up all the powers I know about and send 'em to you and all. Doesn't 'urt to 'ave a central database we can all access.

I like this Olympics idea. Can we 'ave a few offbeat team events, d'you think? Use everyone's weird talents and specialties.

You read my mind. Any talent can be useful in a crisis; I want to get people thinking about that. Doesn't matter if we're not all super soldiers. Hell, the pie maker could take the Gold Medal and I wouldn't even be surprised.

She lifts an eyebrow at his choice of phrase, because she can and has; and they both know she isn't now. It both pleases and worries her a little.

Really? Tell me what a Ned miracle looks like.

Alpha, for one. That bloke broke my nose the day 'e arrived - I were bringing 'im a drink. 'E'd've killed me if I 'adn't been fast and lucky. Just 'cause I was there.

Ned worried 'e was doing a bad job the entire time. Alpha would've walked into fire for 'im. It was adorable. Ned's magic. And you're friends with 'im too so don't pretend you needed that question answered, mister.

Mind you, I'm drawing a blank on competitive events 'e'd shine at. Oh, I know one thing - let's do some forced teamworking. Teach these buggers 'ow to get along. Three-legged obstacle courses. No one finishes without they can move together.

[He smirks, and scoffs softly.] Sure. But it's not a miracle I'm friends with him. I'm not a broken up psycho like Alpha.

And that's my idea, too; make 'em find ways to win besides the obvious. Give the ones who do teams a shot over the ones like me who could normally run circles around 'em.

No. Not that. But anyone that's paid attention to Ned knows what I mean.

Scavenger 'unts as well, maybe. Practise resourcefulness and streamline research methods.

You interested in lending a hand for all that? Designing the scavenger hunt, rewarding the victors?

Hmm. Perhaps that you should not expect full cooperation. Wardens value their privacy, inmates more so.

Well, that is to say that if you do not already know what they are capable enough they won't want to help.

I say it specifically because it has been tried before and cooperation was minimal.

A little friendly competition doesn't sound so bad, but what kind of events could we have on here?

Oh, running, hurdling, wrestling, swimming, finding your way out of a pitch black corridor. See, I think it'd be helpful to run it in a practical way; shit we might actually face when the Admiral breaks the Barge down.

Hey, you ought to add sharp shoot'n to that list. Bet a lot of people here would be interested in seeing where they rank on that.

I haven't seen enough people in action to rightly know. But if I had to say, I'd put money on Dean and Aeryn both.

[Dean will always get at least one vote from Cain, too.]

Why Aeryn?

Because I've seen her shoot, and she doesn't miss often. She's my crewmate from back home.

[She's a lot more than that to him in the time he's from, but he's doing his best to keep a lid on that complicated mess while he's here.]
